With thirty-two offices across the UK, Smiths Gore is the country’s leading rural property consultancy and manages over 2 million acres of land. With over 160 years experience, Smiths Gore includes large estates and historic houses amongst its many clients.
Smiths Gore approached Skyguard, amongst others, looking for suitable lone worker protection. They required a personal safety device whereby their Estate Agents, Architects, Rural Land Agents and Forestry staff could raise the alarm in the event of an accident or emergency. Smiths Gore’s staff work in a wide variety of environments from private properties to forests. They occasionally suffer from slips, trip and falls when working in remote woodland areas or working at height during the inspection of buildings. After trialling a number of services, Smiths Gore chose
Skyguard’s MySOS personal alarm.
The MySOS is Europe’s smallest personal alarm and audited and approved against BS 8484:2016. The keyfob-sized device gives Smiths Gore’s staff peace of mind knowing that if a difficult situation develops, they can quickly call for help at the press of a button. This allows Controllers at Skyguard’s 24 hour manned Incident Management Centre to see who the employee is, talk to and reassure them and send the appropriate emergency response. As the MySOS is fitted with GPS tracking technology, Controllers can locate the user’s exact position. Alarms can also be raised automatically when the MySOS’s ‘Mandown’ feature detects a slip, trip or heavy impact – vital if the employee is unable to call for help themselves.
Kirsty Parkinson, Quality and Compliance Manager for Smiths Gore explains the reasons as to why they chose Skyguard. “We tested other providers and, without a roaming SIM card, we found other lone worker devices in-effective in many of the rural areas in which we operate.”
Skyguard offer all of their clients roaming SIM cards, which utilise the strongest signal from any of the four major UK mobile networks. These are available as an optional extra for devices which are used in areas of poor signal coverage.
Kirsty continues, “Our Estate Agents, Architects, Rural Land Agents and Forestry staff use Skyguard’s lone working device on a risk assessed basis. They benefit from peace of mind, as does the firm; risks are reduced and our staff know that Smiths Gore takes their safety very seriously.
“I would recommend Skyguard to other organisations. We have been using Skyguard devices for a number of years and find that they are very pro-active in making improvements and innovations to the product, as well as helping us get the most out of the device and service.”
