10 Safety Tips for Travelling to and From Work in the Dark

As the dull evenings draw in, many workers find themselves travelling to and from work in the dark. With the decrease in daylight, the opportunity for potential attackers rises significantly.

To help you stay safe on your journey we have compiled a list of our top ten recommendations on what to do, should you have to travel in the darkness.
Avoid Walking Alone
As the saying goes, there’s safety in numbers so if you know beforehand that you’ll be travelling home after dark, try and find a friend or trusted colleague who will be taking a similar route. People on their own are more at risk, so walking in groups if possible is strongly recommended.
Make Sure People Are Aware of Where You Are
Phone a friend before you set out to let them know your whereabouts and when you are due home. If you fail to arrive at your destination by the given time, someone can check then up on you to see if you are ok. Always make sure your phone is fully charged before setting

Send For Help, the largest lone worker protection provider in world and parent company of Skyguard, has today been announced as one of Britain’s fastest growing companies.

The Fast Track 100 list, which is published annually in The Sunday Times, ranks Britain’s top 100 private companies with the fastest growing sales over their latest three years. The company ranks at no. 47 in the 2016 league table.

Brothers James and Will Murray founded the award-winning Send For Help in 2010, when they spotted a gap in the market to provide lone worker protection using pioneering technology.

Leading Animal Charity, Wood Green Turn to Skyguard for 24 Hour Lone Worker Protection

Wood Green, the Animals Charity has turned to Skyguard – Europe’s premier personal safety service, by equipping their lone workers with Skyguard’s award-winning MySOS personal alarms.

The charity, which has grown over the last 90 years to become one of the UK’s leading animal welfare organisations, have a range of lone working activities that present an inherent level of risk. This includes employees entering domestic properties on home check-ups to maintenance staff working alone in remote areas.

With any form of lone working, a robust policy should be in place to ensure staff are adequately protected when performing their duties. Wood Green decided that adopting Skyguard’s MySOS lone worker alarms provided a vital additional layer of security.

Skyguard to Exhibit at Health and Safety North, 2016

Skyguard will once again be showcasing our range of lone worker protection products and services at the Health and Safety North Expo. The event, held at the Bolton Arena on 12th – 13th of October is designed to suit those responsible for health and safety at work within industrial, commercial or public sector businesses.

Skyguard will be located at stand E22 where we will be demonstrating our range of personal safety devices, such as the MySOS – Europe’s smallest dedicated lone worker alarm. In addition, our range of smartphone applications will also feature, including the recently launched Skyguard SmartButton for Windows.

The BS 8484 – certified emergency alert accessory for Windows Mobile allows users to raise an alarm with just a simple press. Using Bluetooth technology, the button instantly activates the smartphone application, raising an alarm to Skyguard’s dedicated Incident Management Centre.
