Edudo uses Skyguard's alarms for lone workers

Tutors delivering education for an innovative national workforce development company have been equipped with Skyguard’s MySOS device, to protect them whilst working alone.

Edudo, which provides tailored work-led education courses to the unemployed and those in work, is thought to be the first company of its kind in the country to offer the state-of-the-art alarms to its employees.

The move is part of edudo’s commitment to the welfare of its valued workforce and aims to protect lone workers in need of urgent support when faced with a learner who is displaying emotional, unpredictable or challenging behaviour.

The GPS enabled device allows staff to alert colleagues to issues, or send an SOS alarm to Skyguard’s 24/7 Incident Management Centre. Here, trained Controllers can see the user’s relevant information and location, talk to the user if safe to do so, and direct the emergency services to them. As Skyguard’s service is certified to BS 8484 – the British Standard for Lone Worker Monitoring Services, this allows the Controllers to bypass the 999 system

Suffolk Fire and Rescue use Skyguard's lone worker device

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service have chosen to protect their front line Fire Prevention Practitioners by equipping them with Skyguard’s MySOS personal safety device. With 24 hour monitoring and single button alarm activation, the device enables the Fire Service’s lone workers to quickly call for help in the event of an incident or emergency.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service provide emergency response across the county of Suffolk in East Anglia. With 35 fire stations, their service answers to around 8,000 emergency calls per year, of which over 740 are serious fires. Aside from attending serious incidents, they also offer fire safety prevention education and advice.

This proactive education is delivered by a dedicated team of Fire Prevention Practitioners, which involves officers attending people’s homes whilst carrying out ‘safer home’ visits. These can include elderly and vulnerable clients, those with mental health issues and various forms of dependencies. These factors can make home visits particularly challenging and can occasionally lead to abusive or threatening behaviour

Skyguard – Proven in Helping Domestic Violence Victims

In an effort to combat Domestic Violence, Over half the UK’s Police forces issue Skyguard personal alarms to victims for increased protection.

In a report issued this week, the HMIC state that thousands of people are at risk of harm or even murder because of widespread failure in England and Wales to tackle domestic abuse.

HMIC said police received more than one million calls a year relating to domestic abuse and almost 58,000 victims – the vast majority of them women – were at risk of serious harm or murder. It said three women a fortnight were being killed by a partner or former partner and a third of all assaults recorded by the police related to domestic violence.

The report said only 8 out of 43 forces were responding well to domestic abuse.
